The world is spinning. Fast. But in your investment-driven industry, it partly turns a little slower. We know this,
and it means that we have to make compromises to meet your demands for state-of-the-art software products
and investment protection.
This compromise consists of deliberately delaying the transition to new Microsoft and Oracle technologies and
supporting CAO versions based on these versions even after support for obsolete versions from these vendors
has expired.
In both your and our interests, these transition periods must be limited, and we are writing to remind you
again of these limits.
We would like to point out that software vendors such as Microsoft have drastically shortened their product
cycles. For Microsoft Windows, for example, maintenance is expected to end after 36 months, and for some
versions of this operating system even after 24 months. This creates challenges for your industry that we want
to help you meet.
We have illustrated the product support cycles for CAO in relation to Windows XP, Windows 7 and the MySQL
database in the following charts starting on page 6.
Please analyze the implications for your respective
production sites. We recommend that you establish this analysis and change process as an ongoing activity.
You can respond to this dynamic process in the following ways:
• Upgrade your machines PCs
• Installation of an additional PC with Windows 11 with network connection to the old machine PC
• Install an additional PC with Windows 11 and work offline
Use the 4Wire CAO Compatibility Check to confirm whether a specific configuration is supported by the CAO system.
